The Rough Guide to Blogging

Blogs. Surely you’ve heard of them, because you’re reading one right now. But do you really understand them? Do you hear others talking about blogs in the library/corporate/online world, yet you don’t know enough about them to ask the right questions?

The Rough Guide to Blogging is an introduction into the world of blogs, their history, presence and potential. In seventeen short chapters, author Jonathan Yang discusses the blogosphere, steps on creating and maintaining a blog, and a look at what other bloggers are doing today.

This is a small book and a fast read. If you’re new to blogs, this Rough Guide may be a good start. Even if the chapters on RSS feeds and starting a blog go over your head, you’ll still have a grasp of the possibilities that arise through blogging.

Yang examines the use of blogs in various fields, but librarianship is not one of them. Though there is a section on business blogs, special librarians will have to tap their own creativity to utilize blogs in their organizations. Still, The Rough Guide to Blogging is a good introductory starting point for all things blog-related.
